User Privacy
Your privacy matters. Learn what information is visible and how to control it.
1. What Other Users Can See
When you use ThaiTown, certain information is visible to other users:

| Email address | Limited — only shown if included in a listing |

| Saved / bookmarked posts | Private — only visible to you |
| Login activity | Private — only visible to admins |
2. Your Posts & Content
- All posts require admin approval before they become publicly visible.
- You can edit or delete your own posts at any time from My Posts
- Images you upload are stored on our servers and will be removed when the post is deleted.
- Once a post is public, other users may have already viewed the information. Deleting a post removes it from the platform but cannot undo prior views.
3. Your Account Information
- You can update your name, email, and avatar from your Profile
- Your password is encrypted using industry-standard hashing and cannot be viewed by anyone, including admins.

4. Saved & Bookmarked Posts
Posts you save or bookmark are completely private. No other user or post author can see which posts you have saved. You can manage your saved items from the Saved
5. Contact Information in Listings
We recommend:
- Only share contact details you are comfortable making public.
- Consider using a separate email or phone number for listings if privacy is a concern.
- Remove or edit your listing once the item is sold or the need is fulfilled.
6. Cookies & Sessions
ThaiTown uses session cookies only to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or share your browsing data with third parties. Logging out or clearing your browser cookies will end your session.
7. Admin Access
Site administrators can view:
- Your account details (name, email) for moderation purposes
- All posts (including those pending approval)
- General site usage statistics
Admins cannot view your password or your saved/bookmarked posts.
8. Data Retention
- Your account data is retained as long as your account is active.
- Deleted posts and their images are permanently removed from our servers.
- If you request account deletion, all your data will be removed within a reasonable timeframe.
9. Your Rights Under Australian Privacy Law
Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Deletion — request that your account and data be deleted
- Complaint — lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe your privacy has been breached
